A cyanotype of a single stem of sweet pea

Plate III — A noteNo. 3 of 12

A cyanotype is the simplest photograph there is. You brush a sheet of paper, lay flowers on it, leave it in the sun and rinse it in water. Whatever the light touched turns blue, and it stays blue.

We made these one weekend on the harbour wall, with weeds from the lane and a washing-up bowl. We are getting married by the sea in June, and we would love you to be there.

Garden formal

Suits and summer dresses. The lawn is soft and the sea breeze is not, so think block heels and something for your shoulders.

The something blue is you. Wear a little, if you like.
